FIRST GUEST: Amanda Bickell, co-founder of the Bryan and Amanda Bickell Foundation, creating awareness for the misunderstood dogs known as “pit bulls” and working with them to assist abused children

Through their Bick’s Pits program, the Bryan and Amanda Bickell Foundation finds homes for a special doggy each month.

April’s “Pit” of the month is Brandy, a 4-year-old girl who has been patiently waiting for her forever home!

Brandy is a sweet 4-year-old girl waiting for her forever home! Her puppies were adopted; now it's her turn! Learn more at www.bickellfoundation.org

Brandy was saved from a junk yard in September 2014. Her puppies have been adopted, but now it’s mama’s turn!

She loves people– especially Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook, with whom she got to pose for this year’s Bickell Foundation calendar!

Here's Brandy (middle pooch) posing with Brent Seabrook and Duncan Keith. Visit www.bickellfoundation.org to learn how you can take her home with you!

Brandy loves to cuddle and hang out with all the Bickell Foundation volunteers. And, as an added bonus, you’ll get FREE TRAINING with her adoption!

So what are you waiting for? Come on out and meet Brandy! Just fill out an application first at playersforpits.com, or learn more about her at bickellfoundation.org.

Amanda also tells us how a hot dog from Meatheads can help the dogs at the Bickell Foundation.

Just order a Bickell Dog (a yummy footlong Vienna beef dog cradled in a cheddar cheese bun topped with chili and Fritos) at your local Meatheads, and a portion of the proceeds go back to the Bickell Foundation.

SECOND GUEST: Jesse White, Illinois Secretary of State

April is National Donate Life Month.

Jesse White reminds us that this is the perfect time to become an organ and tissue donor if you’re not one already.

Just a single donor can save up to 25 people! And you’re never too old or too sick to become a donor.

In fact, Jesse tells us about a young woman who died of cancer who was able to give her mother the gift of sight again. He also tells us about a brave 95-year-old woman who was able to donate three of her organs for transplants.

With 5,000 people currently on the waiting list for a transplant, there’s never been a greater need for organ and tissue donors!

Sign up now and become a hero at lifegoeson.com or call 1-800-210-2106.

THIRD GUEST: Autism Speaks

You’ll notice lots of blue this month since April is also Autism Awareness Month.

During the Light It Up Blue campaign, Autism Speaks spreads awareness about Autism.

Visit autismspeaks.org to learn how you can join the cause, or come out to an Autism Speaks walk:

Sunday, May 3rd at New Trier High School

Saturday, May 16th at Soldier Field

Weekend Journal airs Sunday mornings at 6:30 on US99.5 and 6:00 on US99.5 HD2 The Wolf.
