FIRST GUEST: Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby, licensed marriage and family therapist and author of Exaholics: Breaking Your Addiction to an Ex Love

Valentine’s Day is all chocolate and roses for those happy couples out there, but for those who have recently gone through a breakup, today’s not so fun.

Dr. Lisa explains why it’s so hard to get over an ex: love is addictive! People can actually feel symptoms of withdrawal after being dumped or breaking it off with a significant other.

No, you’re not going crazy. You may just be an exaholic.

The recovery process might not be easy, but it’s not impossible. Dr. Lisa walks us through the healthy way of moving on after a relationship runs its course.

SECOND GUESTS: Veronica Brown, Chicago Public Library Foundation Director of Individual Giving, and Joy Rooney, Event Committe Chair for the Chicago Public Library Foundation’s Night in the Stacks

Dinner, dancing, and drinking: it’s not the normal recipe for a night at the library, but on Friday, April 8th from 7:00 – 11:00 PM, the Harold Washington Library Center will be one big party!

Guests will enjoy the event’s “Made in Chicago” theme, with food and refreshments reflecting this city’s famous hot spots. And don’t forget to enter the raffle, with some great prizes for some of the Windy City’s best attractions.

Veronica and Joy tell us all about the event, and what’s in store this year for the many programs provided by the Chicago Public Library Foundation.

Early bird tickets are on sale now through nightinthestacks.org.

THIRD GUEST: Amanda Bickell, co-founder of the Bryan and Amanda Bickell Foundation

The Bryan and Amanda Bickell Foundation raises awareness for dogs known as “pit bulls” and works with them to assist abused children.

They’re getting ready for A Fetching Affair on February 26th at the Drake Hotel, where you’ll likely see some famous faces and even some Blackhawks! Get your tickets now through bickellfoundation.org.

The Bickells also find an adoptable dog each month, and February’s Bick’s “Pit” is Otter, a 2-year-old boy who loves other dogs, horses, and people! In fact, Otter likes to frequent his local retirement home and visit the residents there to put smiles on their faces. When his day of spreading joy is done, he comes home and cuddles on the couch with his foster mom.

Otter is Bick's "Pit" for February! Here is chillin' with one of the Blackhawks' goaltenders Scott Darling! This 2-year-old boy is as friendly as can be! Learn how to adopt him at bickellfoundation.org.

Otter is also a big fan of sunbathing in nice weather, and taking in the fresh air. He’s a lovable guy and is available for adoption through Peace for Pits Rescue. Fill out an adoption application here.

AROUND CHICAGOLAND:

Why share the love on just one day this month? Heartland Animal Shelter is in the Valentine’s Day spirit all February long with their Month of Love adoption specials!

Swing by the shelter any day this month to take advantage of Heartland’s reduced adoption fees for their adult dogs and cats! Many adult pets are overlooked– who can resist a fluffy puppy or kitten?! But adult doggies and kitties need homes, too, and are often less hyper and easier to manage in many ways.

Cat lovers, check out their kitties 8 years or older, overlooked cats, or special needs cats– Heartland is reducing their adoption fees to just $50!

If you’d rather cuddle a canine, meet Heartland’s dogs 7 years or older, overlooked dogs, or special needs dogs. Their fees are being reduced to just $100.

Meet some of Heartland’s Month of Love lovables at heartlandanimalshelter.net, or visit them in person at 2975 Milwaukee Avenue in Northbrook.
